Women’s Tennis Dominates Blazers While Men Suffer Defeat

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of West Alabama Women's Tennis team secured their 11th victory of the season with a 6-1 win over Valdosta State while the Men fell 7-0 to the Blazers.

Led by Alexa Milliam and company, West Alabama Women's team (11-5, 6-0 GSC) bounced back from their Tuesday loss to North Georgia, by dominating Valdosta State (4-10, 2-6 GSC). For the Men, they were only able to collect one win which came in doubles against the No.2 ranked Blazers (14-0, 8-0 GSC).

"The Women showed up a lot better today in terms of focus and competitiveness," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "This is a very good win against a team that beat the number four ranked team in the country yesterday."

The West Alabama Women swept the doubles point to begin the day as Shaira Rivera/Valentina Mutilba, Milliam/Emiri Takanishi, and Greta Zawels/Lolita Hukasian all took home convincing wins.

In singles play, Milliam continued her hot streak as the freshman defeated VSU's Alyssa Novoa, (6-1, 7-5) in Line Two to improve to 13-0 on the year. Mutilba followed suit in Line Three, claiming a (7-5, 6-1) victory over Olivia Pezo while Takanishi won a three set battle, (7-6, 3-6, 1-0) against Viktoriia Fedorova.

In Line Five, Hukasian picked up a (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) win over Kayla Greco while Zawels rounded out the Tigers with an impressive (6-2, 6-0) victory in Line Six.

On the Men's side, the doubles duo of Eita Ishikawa and Caden Goldammer picked up the lone win for UWA, but it wasn't enough to claim the doubles points as VSU won the other two doubles matches.

West Alabama's Women's Tennis will return home on Monday for a matchup against AUM while the Men are set to return home on Wednesday for a matchup against Mississippi College.
