Baseball Drops Double Header to Argonauts in Series Finale

PENSACOLA, Fla. – West Alabama baseball dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against West Florida, falling 9-4 in Game 1 and 3-0 in the series finale at Jim Spooner Field.

Game 1: West Florida 9, West Alabama 4

The Tigers (19-22, 12-15 GSC) jumped ahead early thanks to Blake Vineyard's solo homer in the top of the first, but the Argonauts (25-15, 18-9 GSC) responded with two in the bottom half, including a two-run shot by Cade Easterbrook.

West Florida piled on three more runs in the third and added a four-run burst in the sixth to stretch the lead to 9-1. West Alabama chipped away late, with a two-run eighth and an RBI single from Vineyard in the ninth, but it wasn't enough.

Vineyard led the Tigers offensively, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Nick Wilson also posted a multi-hit effort, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI. Starting pitcher Baker Green (1-4) took the loss after surrendering five runs on seven hits in four innings.

Cade Easterbrook starred for the Argos, driving in four runs and falling a triple shy of the cycle. Kade Mandersch (3-3) struck out seven and gave up three runs over 7.1 innings to pick up the win.

Game 2: West Florida 3, West Alabama 0

In the nightcap, the Tigers were held scoreless and limited to five hits as UWF completed the sweep.

West Florida struck in the first when Easterbrook singled home a run and advanced all the way to third on a throwing error. A pair of unearned runs followed in the fourth and sixth, with Brantley Willis stealing home to make it 3-0.

Nick Wilson led West Alabama at the plate with two hits, while Bryant Quimby (5-5) allowed just four hits and two earned runs over 5.1 innings but was tagged with the loss.

UWF starter Jacob Heath (4-2) tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out seven without allowing a walk.

West Alabama returns to Tartt Field on Tuesday, April 15, for a non-conference showdown with Tuskegee. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
