Women’s Tennis Collects Senior Day Win over Warhawks

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Women's Tennis team picked up a dominant 5-2 Senior Day win over No. 15 Auburn Montgomery on Monday.

"Today was a great team effort, resulting in a big win over a talented AUM team," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "You always remember your Senior Day so I'm excited we could get a win for Shaira and Emiri."

West Alabama followed their Senior Day ceremony by sweeping the doubles points with Shaira Rivera/Valentina Mutilba, Alexa Milliam/Emiri Takanishi, and Lolita Hukasian/Greta Zawels all picking up convincing wins.

Taking a 1-0 lead into singles play, Milliam's perfect season continued on Line Two as the freshman held a 5-0 lead over a AUM's Melissa Yakup Pour before Pour was forced to retire due to injury. In Line Three, Mutilba came out on the winning side of a three-set battle against Nahia Izco, (3-6, 7-6, 1-0). The Tigers continued to roll in Singles as Takanishi picked up a clean (6-3, 6-4) win in Line Four while Zawels rounded out West Alabama, by picking up her 11th win of the year with a (6-3, 6-4) decision over Sofia Neri.

"We have to keep this momentum going into our final conference matchup of the year on Wednesday against Mississippi College," coach Beaman closed.

West Alabama will be back at the Vaughan Tennis Complex on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. matchup against Mississippi College.
