Baseball Walk Off Flames in Extras on Senior Day Eve

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Jake Goolsby's solo home run and Wayne Wilkerson's walk-off single lifted West Alabama to a thrilling 2-1 extra-inning victory over Lee University Friday night at Tartt Field.

The Tigers (21-22, 13-15 GSC) secured the win in the bottom of the 10th when Wilkerson drove a sharp single to center, scoring Blake Vineyard from third to end a tightly contested game. The win sets the tone for Senior Day as UWA prepares for Saturday's doubleheader against the Flames (23-20, 15-13 GSC), beginning at 1 p.m.

Lee struck first in the fourth inning with an RBI single from Ashton Simmons, but that would be their only run of the night despite collecting 10 hits. West Alabama answered in the sixth as Goolsby launched a solo home run to right field, tying the game at 1-1.

Goolsby finished 2-for-3 with a walk, while Ryan Fletcher added three hits for the Tigers. Vineyard, who started the 10th-inning rally with a double, scored the winning run on Wilkerson's clutch hit.

On the mound, Maxwell Schumacher delivered a strong start, allowing one run on seven hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts. Gates Pee earned the win in relief, working the 10th and stranding a pair of Lee runners.

The Tigers' pitching staff struck out 10 and allowed just one walk in the extra-inning battle. Lee's Will Baker was charged with the loss after surrendering the game-winning run in the 10th.

UWA and Lee will wrap up the weekend series with a Senior Day doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. at Tartt Field.
