LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Despite the change in venue, the West Alabama baseball team split Saturday's doubleheader against Trevecca Nazarene in a Gulf South Conference matchup at Tartt Field, which served as the host site due to weather-related changes in Nashville. The Tigers dropped game one 2-1, before bouncing back for a 3-2 win in the nightcap.
Game One: Trevecca Nazarene 2, West Alabama 1
The Tigers took a brief lead in the sixth inning when
Blake Vineyard launched a solo home run to left field, marking his seventh of the season. However, the lead was short-lived as the Trojans responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a groundout RBI from Luke Dymond and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Carter Warner.
West Alabama managed just four hits in the opener, with Vineyard,
Eli Burwash,
Nick Wilson, and
Tanner Jones each collecting one.
Baker Green (1-3) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs on five hits over 5.2 innings. Logan Harrell (2-2) earned the win for Trevecca in relief, and Aaron McCoy picked up the save.
Game Two: West Alabama 3, Trevecca Nazarene 2
The Tigers responded in game two behind a strong start from
Bryant Quimby, who went the distance for the complete-game win, improving to 5-4 on the season. Quimby allowed two earned runs on six hits while striking out seven.
West Alabama struck early, plating two in the first on a two-RBI single by
Caden Long. An RBI bunt single by
Will Wood in the third extended the lead to 3-0. Trevecca rallied for two runs in the seventh, but Quimby shut the door to seal the win.
Offensively, UWA was led by Long (1-for-4, 2 RBI) and Wood (1-for-3, RBI), with seven Tigers recording hits in the win.
Nick Wilson scored a run and added his second stolen base of the day, and Burwash doubled for the second time in the series.
With the split, West Alabama moves to 19-19 overall and remains 12-12 in Gulf South Conference play, while Trevecca Nazarene goes to 15-21 overall and 11-13 in conference play. The Tigers will be hitting the road for a three-game GSC series against West Florida beginning Friday, April 11.
