LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's soccer team earned its first result of the 2025 season with a 1-1 draw against Carson-Newman on Wednesday afternoon at the UWA Soccer Field.
The Tigers wasted little time getting on the board as Kyrylo Peregudov netted his first goal of the year in the 9th minute, finishing off a pass from David Nunez to give UWA a 1-0 lead. Carson-Newman quickly responded, leveling the score in the 17th minute when Mitchell Honcoop capitalized on a setup from Ben Dukes.
The rest of the match proved to be a defensive battle, with both teams unable to break the deadlock despite multiple chances. UWA outshot Carson-Newman 12-10 and held a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal, but Eagles goalkeeper Elijah Buford recorded four saves to keep the Tigers at bay. Charlie Walker collected one save for West Alabama.
The contest also grew physical as both sides combined for five yellow cards, with three cautions going against the Tigers.
West Alabama moves to 0-2-1 on the season, while Carson-Newman sits at 0-1-2. The Tigers will return to action on Friday, September 19, hosting Trevecca Nazarene at 7:30 p.m. for the first match in Gulf South Conference play under the lights at the UWA Soccer Field.
