LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team opened Gulf South Conference play with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Trevecca Nazarene on Friday evening at the UWA Soccer Field.
The Tigers (3-0-2, 0-0-1 GSC) controlled much of the offensive flow, outshooting the Trojans 15-8 and holding a 7-5 edge in corner kicks, but were unable to break through. Freshman goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez continued her strong start to the season, recording three saves to secure her fourth clean sheet in five matches.
UWA created several quality chances throughout the match. In the first half, Bailee Fairley rattled a shot off the post in the 15th minute, and Selis Demirci nearly found the net with multiple looks, including a strike off the crossbar in the second half. Despite the pressure, Trevecca's goalkeeper Bailie Fiore matched Hernandez with three saves to preserve the draw.
Defensively, the Tigers held firm and limited Trevecca's attack, with Hernandez anchoring the back line and the defensive unit blocking several attempts in the final third.
West Alabama will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 21, hosting Lee University at 1 p.m. in another Gulf South Conference matchup at the UWA Soccer Field.
