MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought Gulf South Conference matchup on the road Wednesday evening, falling 1-0 to Montevallo at Varsity Field.
The Falcons (4-2-0, 3-0-0 GSC) struck early, netting the lone goal of the match in the 12th minute when Lainey Farabaugh finished off an assist from Bear Bradbury. From there, UWA's defense tightened up and kept Montevallo off the board for the remainder of the contest.
West Alabama (3-2-2, 0-2-1 GSC) was limited offensively, recording just two shots in the match. Goalkeeper
Yumari Hernandez kept the Tigers within striking distance, finishing with six saves against 16 total Falcon attempts, seven of which were on frame.
Despite several second-half pushes, including two corner kicks and a shot from
Bailee Fairley that missed just high, UWA couldn't find the equalizer.
The Tigers will look to bounce back at home on Friday, October 3, hosting Valdosta State in another GSC matchup at 5 p.m. at UWA Soccer Field.
