Men's Soccer Host Badgers Friday on Staff Appreciation Night

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Riding momentum from a perfect start to Gulf South Conference play, the University of West Alabama men's soccer team returns home on Friday, September 26, for a matchup against Spring Hill College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at UWA Soccer Field, with the contest serving as Staff Appreciation Night.

The Tigers (2-2-1, 2-0 GSC) opened league play in commanding fashion, defeating Trevecca Nazarene and Lee University to move above .500 on the season. UWA nearly swept the GSC's weekly honors following the 2-0 weekend, as David Nunez (Offensive Player of the Week), Harrison Page (Defensive Player of the Week), and Gonzalo Rawinad (Freshman of the Week) each earned recognition.

Nunez leads the Tigers' attack with five goals and 11 points across the opening five matches, converting nearly 39 percent of his shots and scoring on a penalty kick against Lee. Page has been impactful on both ends of the pitch, registering a goal and an assist last weekend, while Rawinad netted his first career goal in the 5-1 victory over Trevecca.

As a team, West Alabama is averaging 2.0 goals per game while holding opponents to 1.8. The Tigers have been efficient in the attack, scoring on 20 percent of their shots and putting nearly half of their attempts on frame. Defensively, goalkeeper Charlie Walker has tallied 14 saves through five starts.

Spring Hill (0-3-1, 0-1-1 GSC) enters the weekend still searching for its first victory of the season. The Badgers average just 0.75 goals per game while conceding 2.50. Alessandro Merlo, Jack Ambrose, and Lucciano Injoque each have scored once to pace the offense. Goalkeeper Isa Murati has provided stability in the net with 14 saves and a clean sheet across three appearances.

Friday's meeting marks another key conference test for UWA as the Tigers aim to extend their winning streak and continue climbing the GSC standings.
