LIVINGSTON, Ala. – David Nunez delivered once again for the University of West Alabama men's soccer team, converting a penalty kick in the 77th minute to secure a 1-0 victory over Spring Hill College on Friday night at the UWA Soccer Field. With the win, the Tigers improved to 3-2-1 overall and a perfect 3-0-0 in Gulf South Conference play.
After a scoreless first half, UWA took control in the second period, outshooting the Badgers 13-3 and consistently pressing in the final third. The breakthrough came when the Tigers earned a penalty in the 76th minute, which Nunez calmly slotted home for his fifth goal of the season.
The Tigers finished with an 18-5 advantage in total shots, including six on goal, while also earning seven corner kicks to Spring Hill's four. Nunez led the attack with multiple attempts on frame, while goalkeeper Charlie Walker was called upon for just one save to record the clean sheet.
Spring Hill (0-4-1, 0-2-1 GSC) managed only one shot on goal in the match and played the final minutes a man down after a red card was issued in the 88th minute. Badger keeper Isa Murati made five saves to keep the visitors in the contest.
West Alabama will look to continue its unbeaten start in league play when it returns home on Friday, October 3, to host Auburn-Montgomery. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the UWA Soccer Field.
