Tigers Prepare for Home Opener

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After a competitive opening weekend on the road, the University of West Alabama volleyball team is set to return home for their first home game of the season on Tuesday, September 9, at Pruitt Hall. The Tigers will face Southern Wesleyan at 1 p.m. before taking on Miles College at 7 p.m.

The Tigers showed plenty of promise during its season-opening matches at the Trailblazer Invitational. Each contest featured tightly contested sets, including a four-set battle against Fayetteville State and a five-point rally late in the third set against North Greenville. The Tigers closed the weekend with another hard-fought performance against Mars Hill, highlighted by a dominant 25-8 third set victory.

Moreover, several Tigers turned in standout efforts across the three matches. Cadence Goeden opened the season with back-to-back double-digit kill performances, including a 17-kill outing against North Greenville. Klára Bobánová led the Tigers against Mars Hill with 17 kills and four aces, while Katerina Korre provided steady offense and defense with 14 digs and multiple aces. Setter Jana Petkovic directed the offense with 105 assists across the weekend, adding 19 digs.

UWA's home opener features Southern Wesleyan making its season debut in Livingston, while Miles College also begins its 2025 campaign on Tuesday. Both opponents will provide West Alabama an opportunity to build on its early-season momentum and capture its first victory of the year in front of the home crowd.
