Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

18th Ranked Tigers Use Dominant Second Half to Cruise Past Bucs

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Men's Basketball team extended their win streak to 10 on Friday after a decisive, 80-57, win over Christian Brothers at Pruitt Hall.

No. 18 UWA (12-1, 7-0 GSC) used a dominant second half in which they outscored Christian Brothers (2-9, 1-5 GSC), 42-23, to cruise to their 10th consecutive win and seventh conference victory.

"Credit to Christian Brothers on making it tough on us through the first 30 minutes of the game," said head coach Nick Woodruff. "At the end of the day, players have to make plays in games like this, and our guys made a ton of plays tonight. I'm really proud of our fight through adversity because we haven't faced a lot of adversity this season thus far."

The game began with the Tigers' Christian Thompson scoring a layup at 19:38, quickly followed by a response from CBU's Jabari Phillip Jr. with a layup of his own. The teams exchanged leads throughout the half, with West Alabama maintaining a slight edge thanks to a three-pointer by Elliot Tulip at the 3:59 mark, pushing their lead to 30-27. The Bucs attempted to take a lead, highlighted by Phillip Jr.'s basket at 1:08, but UWA secured a 38-34 advantage to close the first half, aided by two free throws from Thompson with 47 seconds remaining.

West Alabama shot 51.7 percent and 57.1 percent from three in the first half while Christian Brothers shot 47 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent from three.

In the second half, the Bucs briefly pulled ahead with an early run, including a three-pointer by Iman Kheirati, to put CBU ahead 44-43. However, West Alabama responded with a strong offensive showing, highlighted by Tulip's consecutive three-pointers at 13:17 and 12:44, fueling a decisive 18-4 run. BJ Brown Jr. contributed significantly with a layup and a three-pointer, extending the Tigers' lead further. UWA's defensive efforts, including multiple steals and blocks, kept the Bucs at bay, leading to a commanding 80-57 victory.

Tulip scored 22 points, converting six of nine attempts from beyond the arc. Brown Jr. added 18 points while also distributing nine assists and recording two steals. Thompson finished with 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting and collected nine rebounds. Caleb Parr contributed defensively with two blocks and added seven points to the team's effort.

West Alabama will conclude this week's action with a matchup against Union on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. from Pruitt Hall.
