14th Ranked Tigers Continue Dominant Play with 14-Point Win over Warhawks

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Men's Basketball team defeated the AUM Warhawks, 75-61, in Montgomery on Thursday night to extend their win streak to 12.

West Alabama (14-1, 9-0 GSC) dominated the paint, scoring 38 points inside, and capitalized on second-chance opportunities with 16 points to cruise to a 14-point win over AUM (3-11, 1-7 GSC). The Tigers' defense also shined once again, holding the Warhawks to 37 percent shooting on the night.

UWA opened the game with a strong offensive performance, establishing an early 11-0 lead with Rasean Frederick contributing key layups, including one at the 18:32 mark. BJ Brown Jr. played a pivotal role, assisting on multiple scoring plays and adding to the Tigers' advantage with a layup of his own at the 17:39 mark along with Jakobe Singleton who recorded 14 points and seven rebounds in the first half. Despite a brief response from AUM, which included a three-pointer by Jamarious Martin, West Alabama maintained control, closing the first half with a 49-27 lead, punctuated by Singleton's jumper in the final seconds.

The Tigers shot 59.4 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three in the first half, while holding the Warhawks to 28 percent from the field.

In the second half, Christian Thompson's offensive presence was notable, beginning with a tip-in to start the half, extending UWA's lead. Elliot Tulip connected from beyond the arc at 17:38, assisted by Brown Jr., to maintain momentum. Despite a scoring effort by Martin with a three-pointer at 16:42, the Tigers sustained their advantage. In the final minutes, a three from KJ Anderson and a dunk from Albright Obode put a stamp on another dominant performance for the 14th ranked Tigers.

Singleton and Thompson both recorded double-doubles with Singleton leading the way with 17 points and 11 rebounds off the bench while Thompson scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Frederick contributed 11 points, making five of eight from the field. Brown Jr. recorded three steals and four assists, impacting the game on both ends of the court.

West Alabama will conclude their road trip on Saturday for a massive matchup against Montevallo that's set for 4:00 p.m.
