West Alabama Tigers Head to Tennessee for Key Gulf South Conference Road Swing

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama women's basketball team hits the road this week for an important Gulf South Conference trip to Tennessee, facing Union University on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 5:30 p.m. inside Fred DeLay Gymnasium in Jackson before traveling to Memphis to take on Christian Brothers University on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m. in Canale Arena.

West Alabama enters the week with a 10–10 overall record and an 8–9 mark in conference play, while Union sits at 16–7 overall and 11-4 in GSC action and Christian Brothers comes in at 3–18 and 0–15 in GSC action.

The road swing marks the second meeting of the season against both opponents. Union earned an 86–65 victory in Livingston on Jan. 4, using a strong fourth quarter and efficient shooting to pull away from the Tigers. Two days earlier, West Alabama defeated Christian Brothers 67–57 at Pruitt Hall, using balanced scoring and defensive pressure to secure the conference win. Both results remain fresh as UWA looks to split the season series with Union and complete the sweep of CBU.

Offensively, the Tigers are led by Bellah Machen, who is averaging 16.3 points per game while shooting over 43 percent from the field and more than 80 percent from the free-throw line. Haley Nichols provides a consistent interior presence, averaging 12.7 points per contest, while Nailah Mayes adds another scoring option at 11.0 points per game. West Alabama has relied on balanced scoring and rebounding throughout conference play as it continues to battle for positioning in the GSC standings.

UWA enters the week coming off a split home stand, earning a 69–62 win over Mississippi College before dropping a tightly contested 74–71 game to Delta State. The Tigers have continued to play competitive basketball down the stretch, with several recent games decided in the final minutes.

Union enters Thursday's matchup with momentum after winning four straight games against Christian Brothers, Montevallo, Mississippi College, and Auburn Montgomery. The Bulldogs are led by Olivia Lee, who averages 16.0 points per game, while Courtney Zensen adds 11.4 points and Abigail Bryan contributes 9.6 points per contest. In the previous meeting, Union shot nearly 47 percent from the field and scored 86 points in the win over UWA.

Christian Brothers enters Saturday's contest seeking its first conference win of the season. The Buccaneers are led by Donee' Frazier, who averages 17.8 points per game, while Alice Conrad adds 10.5 points per contest. West Alabama held CBU to 57 points in the earlier meeting this season, a defensive effort the Tigers will look to replicate on the road.

West Alabama fans can follow the Tigers throughout the road trip as tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Fred DeLay Gymnasium and 2 p.m. Saturday at Canale Arena as UWA looks to make a push in the Gulf South Conference standings.
