INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of West Alabama Women's Tennis team advanced to the Semifinal of the ITA Indoor National Championship with a 4-1 win over Flagler on Friday.
"Today, we started doubles with great energy and that the set the tone for the singles," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "In singles, Flagler changed things up and they really fought. They're a great team but we took care of business."
West Alabama began the day, taking the doubles point with Nanoka Kamaza/Greta Zawels and Jenaila Prulla/Valentina Mutilba both dominating their doubles match, 6-1.
In singles action, Shaira Rivera handled Flagler's No. 1 Eryka Kruk, (6-2, 6-4) while Prulla also won in straight sets on Line Five (6-1, 6-4).
Kazama clinched the match on Line Six, defeating the Saints' Ornello Lomenzo (6-2, 6-4) to advance UWA on to the semifinals.
West Alabama will play No. 1 seed Barry on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. CST with the winner advancing to the Indoor Championship.
