MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Softball team was edged out by No. 1 AUM in a 2-1 defeat on Sunday at the AUM Softball Complex.
With today's result, West Alabama (11-4-1, 2-1 GSC) still takes the three-game series over No. 1 AUM (11-2, 1-2 GSC) after taking Games One and Two on Friday.
UWA's lone run came in the second inning courtesy of a solo Home Run from Kayla Morris. Other than Morris' solo shot, the Tigers' offense struggled to get going. Megan Roe was phenomenal in the circle again for West Alabama. The senior only surrender one earned run on three hits while recording four strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work.
Auburn Montgomery took an early lead in the first inning with an unearned run as Olivia Watkins scored following a throwing error and a single by Rebecca Komers. The score was 1-0 in favor of the Warhawks at the end of the first inning.
In the second inning, Morris hit her second Home Run of the series to knot the game at one.
For the next couple of innings, Roe neutralized AUM's lineup, keeping the score 1-1 until the sixth inning.
Watkins began the bottom of the sixth with a walk and eventually scored on a single by Kennedy Sevcik, putting the Warhawks ahead 2-1. The Tigers were unable to score in the seventh inning.
West Alabama will be back in action next weekend for a three-game series against Christian Brothers.
