No. 11 Tigers Fall to Chargers in Regular Season Finale

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Basketball team fell to UAH, 70-64, in the regular season finale at Spragins Hall on Friday.

No. 11 West Alabama (24-4, 19-3 GSC) shot better from the floor than UAH (20-8, -5-7 GSC) and out-rebounded the Chargers, but a 40 percent mark from the free throw hurt the Tigers in their six-point loss.

"UAH made it very uncomfortable for us," said head coach Nick Woodruff. "They were the tougher and more physical team tonight."

The game started as a back-and-forth physical affair. Caleb Parr began the action with a three on UWA's first possession before UAH responded with back-to-back threes. The Chargers' Matthew Thurman erupted for four threes in the first eight minutes, putting the Tigers in a 15-11 deficit. Jakobe Singleton kept West Alabama afloat with eight points off the bench. With 9:00 minutes remaining in the half, UAH's Quentin Toles buried back-to-back threes to give the Chargers a seven-point cushion. Buckets from Rasean Frederick, BJ Brown Jr., and Albright Obode kept UWA within 10 points for the remainder of the half, but the Tigers would head to the locker, trailing by eight.

West Alabama struggled from the field in the first half, shooting 37.5 percent and 25 percent from three. UAH also shot 37.5 percent from the floor but registered a 56.5 percent three-point percentage which led to their eight-point lead at the half.

In a tightly contested second half, UWA outscored the Chargers 38-36, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit, resulting in a 70-64 loss. Elliot Tulip found his rhythm in the second half, burying a pair of threes, helping UWA stay in the game. The Tigers struggled to get within 10 points until late in the ball game. Caleb Parr and Tulip delivered buckets down the stretch, but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the deficit as West Alabama fell, 70-64.

Singleton made all eight of his field goal attempts, finishing with 18 points. Brown Jr. recorded six assists and added nine points. Parr scored 11 points, including three three-pointers, while collecting six rebounds. Christian Thompson contributed with nine rebounds and totaled five points in the game.

West Alabama now gears up for the GSC Tournament which is set to begin on Monday at 6:00 p.m. at Pruitt Hall. The Tigers will play No. 8 seed Delta State in the GSC Quarterfinals.
