HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Women's Basketball team fell to UAH, 83-67, at SportsMED Arena in Spragins Hall in the 2025-26 regular season finale.
West Alabama (13-12, 11-11 GSC) allowed UAH (26-4, 21-1 GSC) to shoot 57 percent from the floor and 43 percent from three, resulting in their 16-point loss.
The game opened with the Chargers taking an early lead, fueled by Millie Brown's three-pointer at 9:18. West Ala. responded with
Shay Hunter scoring a layup assisted by
Jayda Bernard at 8:06. However, UAH extended their advantage with Ivey Maddox and Paris Opelt contributing to a strong offensive performance, including Maddox's fast-break three-pointer at 3:12. Lili Wilken was pivotal for the Chargers, tallying multiple points and rebounds, helping to close the first quarter with a 26-12 lead.
The Chargers extended their lead in the second quarter with strong shooting, hitting 9 of 15 baskets, including two three-pointers. White contributed significantly for the Chargers with key plays, including a layup at the 5:02 mark. The Tigers' offense was highlighted by Hunter, who scored a layup with 1:02 remaining, cutting the deficit. Despite the Tigers' efforts, the Chargers maintained control, closing the quarter with a jumper by Wilken and leading 47-27 at the half.
UWA played better in the third quarter but was unable to make a dent into UAH's lead. With solid play from
Haley Nichols, Hunter, and
Callie Cowan, West Alabama won the quarter, 21-20, but still faced a 19-point deficit at the end of the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the combination of
Chardai Watkins,
Bellah Machen and
Callie Cowan accounted for majority of the Tigers' points. Play from that trio helped UWA win the quarter, but they would ultimately fall in the contest, 83-67.
Hunter led the Tigers in scoring with 12 points, converting six of eight attempts and adding five assists. Machen contributed 10 points, making all six of her free throws. Nichols scored 12 points, including two three-pointers, and collected five rebounds. Watkins added four steals to her seven points, demonstrating strong defensive play.
West Alabama now enters the GSC Tournament as the eight-seed and is set to play No. 1 seed UAH for the third on Monday in Huntsville with their season on the line.
