MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Women's Tennis team defeated the AUM Warhawks, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon.
No. 3 West Alabama (9-3, 1-1 GSC) began the match, by taking the doubles point over AUM (4-8, 1-1 GSC). The Tigers' duos of Jenaila Prulla/Jian Ibrahim and Nanoka Kazama/Greta Zawels took care of business in Lines Two and Three with scores of 6-1 and 7-6.Â
UWA took their 1-0 lead into singles play before AUM tied the match with a victory in Line Two. The Tigers quickly re-took the lead with Zawels', (6-2, 6-0) victory on Line Six. UWA extended their lead as Shaira Rivera picked up a (6-1, 6-3) victory in Line One. Jian Ibrahim continued her impressive freshman campaign, defeating Yonezawa Nagisa (6-3, 6-2) in Line Three.
To close things out, the dynamic duo of Prulla and Kazama in Line Four and Five singles continued their hot streak. Prulla earned a (6-1, 6-4) on Line Four to move to 9-0 while Kazama defeated her opponent (6-2, 6-4) in Line Five.
West Alabama will return to action on Saturday, March 21 for a matchup against Nebraska at Kearney.
