LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's and Women's Tennis team are ranked within the ITA top-20 in this week's release of the rankings.
West Alabama Women's Team is ranked fifth in the nation, holding an overall record of 11-3. The Tigers have won four consecutive matches, including a 4-2 victory over No. 11 North Georgia on Sunday.
As for the Men's Team, they climb up to No. 17 in the country. UWA holds an overall record of 8-4 and are winners of four of their last five matches.
Individually, Shaira Rivera is ranked No. 10 in the nation in singles. On Line One, Rivera holds a 7-5 record and earned a (7-5, 6-3) win over North Georgia's Anastasiia Opolska on Sunday who is ranked 12th in singles. Along with Rivera, Alexa Milliam comes in at No. 18 in singles. Milliam went 1-1 in singles play this past weekend with a clean (6-0, 6-1) victory coming over Nebraska Kearney's Patricija Cechanavic.
In doubles action, the duo of Rivera and Milliam are ranked sixth in Division II. This season, UWA's star tandem is 7-2 in doubles play.
On the Men's side, Matias Iturbe remains ranked within the top-25 in singles, coming in at No. 21. Iturbe continues to be recognized for the brilliant Fall Season that he put together. Gabriel Garay checks in at No. 55 this week as he currently holds a 5-3 singles record this season.
In doubles play, Jacob Tapia and Federico Iturbe are ranked 30th in the nation, carrying an 8-4 record as partners.
West Alabama's Men's Team will take their No. 17 ranking on the road on March 31 for a matchup against Columbus State. For the Women, they'll next be in action on April 1 for a GSC contest against Montevallo.
