JACKSON, Tenn. — The University of West Alabama Softball team took home a 2-0 victory over Union on Sunday at Fesmire Field to secure the series sweep.
UWA's (23-7-1, 14-4 GSC) two-run fourth inning, combined with a complete-game shutout from Eleanor De Block, sealed the win over Union (13-20, 6-12 GSC).
After a scoreless first three innings, the Tigers got on the board in the fourth. In the inning, Trinity Hatcher walked and advanced to second on an error. Carolyn Cagle reached on a fielder's choice, and La'Taviona Parke, pinch-hitting for Trinity Brooks, delivered a single to center field, driving in two runs. Hatcher and Cagle both scored unearned runs, giving West Alabama a 2-0 lead.
Parks's two-run single would be all the run support De Block would need in the circle. The senior right-hander breezed through the Bulldogs' order, only running into trouble in the third.
De Block pitched a complete game shutout, which stands as her sixth of the season. The righty only allowed three hits and while striking out five batters over 7.0 innings of work.
Parke led the way offensively, contributing with two RBIs in a pinch-hit appearance, bolstering the team's offense. Ella Watson reached base four times, recording one hit and drawing three walks, while also stealing a base. ShaKeria Washington added a key double in her one hit, providing an offensive spark.
West Alabama will return home on Thursday when they open up a three-game series against Trevecca Nazarene.
