LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Tennis secured their third consecutive win on Tuesday after a 6-1 over the Montevallo Falcons at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
West Alabama (10-4, 2-1 GSC) dominated the match from start to finish against Montevallo (4-6, 1-4 GSC) to earn their second conference win of the year.
The Tigers got out of the gates fast, winning the doubles point behind strong performances on Lines One and Two. The duo of Gabriel Garay/Sebastiao Vilas and Jacob Tapia/Federico Iturbe both took home convincing victories to put UWA ahead, 1-0.
West Alabama's momentum carried over into singles play as they picked up wins on Lines One, Two, Three, Four, and Six. Tapia handled Montevallo's Christian Bacher, (6-3, 6-3) on Lines One while Portugal took home a (6-2, 6-1) victory against the Falcons' Samuel Maia on Line Two.
Maksim Goncharov and Iturbe also picked up wins in straight sets in Lines Three and Four. Goncharov picked up a (6-3, 6-4) decision while Iturbe turned in a (6-2, 6-3) performance. To round out the day, Itaru Kikuchi secured a three-set victory, (4-6, 7-6, 10-6) to give the Tigers their sixth and final point of the afternoon.
West Alabama will be back in action on Thursday for a GSC matchup against Christian Brothers that's slated for 2:00 p.m. at the Vaughan Tennis Complex.
