LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's Tennis team defended their home court with a 5-2 win over Christian Brothers on Thursday while the Women's Team won by forfeit.
No. 17 West Alabama (11-4, 3-1 GSC) swept doubles, before winning four of the six singles matches against Christian Brothers (4-9, 0-6 GSC).
The doubles tandems of Gabriel Garay/Itaru Kikuchi, Federico Iturbe/Jacob Tapia, Afonso Portugal/Maksim Goncharov all took care of business in doubles play to secure the first point of the match.
In singles, Tapia dominated CBU's Benjamin Hanriot, winning in straight sets, (6-1, 6-1). Portugal won a competitive set one on Line Two before closing things out in the second set, securing a (7-5, 6-1) victory. On Line Three, Goncharov continued his impressive play as he took home a (6-2, 6-4) win over Alexandre Randoux. Iturbe captured the final individual victory of the day for UWA on Line Four as he defeated Justin Martin, (6-2, 6-2).
West Alabama will be back in action on Friday for a matchup against the Lee Flames.
