Tennis Falls in Competitive Match Against No. 2 Argonauts

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Men's and Women's Tennis teams fell to No. 2 West Florida, 4-3, at the Vaughan Tennis Complex on Saturday.

West Alabama's Women's team's loss to West Florida is the Tigers first GSC regular season loss in six years.

Both the men's and women's team started strong, winning the doubles point before losing four of the six singles matches.

"This was a tough day with a lot of good tennis played by both teams," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "We can perform better and we expect to perform better."

MEN'S TENNIS: UWF 4, UWA 3 

The duos of Federico Iturbe/Jacob Tapia won their doubles match, 6-4, while Maksim Goncharov/Afonso Portugal also took care of business on Line Three, 6-4.

In singles play, Portugal won his match in straight sets, (6-2, 6-2) while Sebastiao Vilas took home a three-set victory, (0-6, 6-1, 6-0).

WOMEN'S TENNIS: UWF 4, UWA 3

West Alabama swept the doubles point as the tandems of Shaira Rivera/Alexa Milliam, Valentina Mutilba/Jenaila Prulla, and Nanoka Kazama/Greta Zawels all took home victories.

In singles play, the Tigers fell in Lines One-Three. Prulla and Kazama were victorious in Lines Five and Six. Prulla defeated Alberte Jorgensen, (6-4, 6-0) while Kazama took care of Kyle Kochis, (6-4, 6-2) to close the day.

"It's time to get back on the horse," coach Beaman closed.

West Alabama will be back in action on Monday for an 11:00 a.m. matchup against Lynn in Clinton, Mississippi.
