LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Softball team completed a three-game series sweep over Valdosta State on Saturday, with a 3-2 walk-off win in Game Three at the UWA Softball Complex.
The pitching trio of
Ann Marie Stanbridge,
Megan Roe, and
Eleanor De Block combined to hold VSU (9-10, 5-4 GSC) to two runs on four hits, leading UWA (17-4-1, 8-1 GSC) to their sixth straight win.
Valdosta State took an early lead in the second inning with a sacrifice fly from Cailyn Cooke, bringing in Carly Bogart for a 1-0 advantage. The third inning saw Saylor McNearney score on a throwing error, extending the Blazers' lead to 2-0.
In the fifth inning, West Alabama responded with a two-run homer by
Alexis Parson, driving in
ShaKeria Washington and tying the score at 2-2.
In the top of the seventh, the Blazers loaded up the bases on De Block, serving as a real threat to take a late lead. The senior Right Hander got out the jam, by producing a popup before striking out VSU's Cailyn Cooke to retire the Blazers' side.
Rolling off the momentum that Parson and De Block generated, West Alabama loaded up the bases in the bottom of the seventh.
Carolyn Cagle came up to the plate with one out in the inning and singled in shallow center field, driving in
Jessica Rose to walk Valdosta State off for the second consecutive game.
Parson delivered a powerful performance, hitting a home run and driving in two runs. Stanbridge contributed both at the plate and on the mound, recording one hit and pitching four innings with two strikeouts and one earned run allowed. Cagle added one hit and one RBI, while also providing three assists from second base.
Trinity Hatcher reached base three times with a hit, a walk, and a hit by pitch, while also stealing a base.
West Alabama will return to action next weekend when they host Montevallo for a three-game series.
