LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama's Federico Iturbe was named the GSC Champion Scholar Athlete on Wednesday.
At each GSC Championship Tournament, the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point-average among teams participating shall be recognized. A minimum of 48 credit hours must be completed at the institution in order to be nominated for the award, and the GPA is based on the most recently completed term.
Iturbe earns this honor after posting a perfect 4.00 GPA as a Computer Engineering Technology major in the classroom. On the court, the junior turned in the best regular season of his career. Iturbe is currently 13-3 in singles play, holding a perfect 9-0 record on Line Four. In doubles, the junior is ranked 18th in the country alongside his partner and First Team All-GSC selection, Jacob Tapia.
Iturbe and the Tigers are hearing up to kick off the GSC Tournament on Thursday with a 8:00 a.m. matchup set against Valdosta State.
