LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Softball team (36-10-1, 21-7 GSC) secured a 3-0 victory over UAH in Game One on Friday while Game Two was halted due to weather.
Eleanor De Block secured her ninth complete game shutout of the year in Game One while UWA's Ann Marie Stanbridge and Trinity Hatcher launched solo homers to propel the Tigers (36-10-1, 21-7 GSC) over UAH (31-18, 15-13 GSC).
Stanbridge opened up the scoring with her ninth home run of the season in the third inning. Two batters later, Hatcher followed with another homer to left field, extending West Alabama's lead to 2-0.
The fourth inning saw UWA capitalize further. Carolyn Cagle scored an unearned run after reaching on a fielder's choice and advancing on a series of plays, including an error and a wild pitch. Stanbridge drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the run, increasing the lead to 3-0 by the end of the fourth inning.
The Tigers maintained its defensive strength throughout the contest as they finished the game with zero errors, while De Block dazzled in the circle to secure a 3-0 win for UWA.
Stanbridge delivered a strong performance, collecting three hits, including a home run, and driving in two runs while scoring once. Hatcher contributed with a solo home run, recording one hit and one RBI in the game. De Block notched her ninth complete game shutout of the season, striking out three batters, and yielding five hits to secure her 20th win.
In Game Two, the Chargers got out to a fast start. UAH collected 10 runs on 14 hits to take a 10-4 lead over UWA before the game was halted due to weather in the top of the sixth.
Game Two will officially resume on Saturday 1:00 p.m. with the series finale to follow.
