No. 6 Tigers Drop Series Finale, Secure 2-1 Series Win over Trojans

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The No. 6 University of West Alabama baseball team was held in check in the series finale, falling 2-0 to Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday at Tartt Field. Despite the loss, the Tigers secured the Gulf South Conference series victory, taking two of three games over the weekend.

West Alabama moves to 28-8 overall and 16-6 in GSC play following the series.

Trevecca Nazarene struck early, using a first-inning solo home run from Cade Martin to take a 1-0 lead. The Trojans added another run in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a bases-loaded opportunity with an RBI groundout to extend the advantage to 2-0.

That would be all the offense needed, as Trevecca's Logan Harrell turned in a dominant complete-game performance. Harrell limited the Tigers to just two hits across nine innings, striking out five without issuing a walk.

West Alabama struggled to find rhythm at the plate throughout the contest, with Aaron Wallace and Austin Thacker accounting for the Tigers' only hits of the game. UWA was unable to advance a runner past second base, as Trevecca's pitching and defense controlled the tempo from start to finish.

On the mound, Blake Westry took the loss, falling to 6-1 on the season after allowing two runs on five hits over 4.2 innings. The Tigers' bullpen was effective in relief, with Ryan Ladner and Thomas Kerby combining for 4.1 scoreless innings to keep the deficit within reach.

Although the Tigers came up short in the finale, they showed resilience throughout the series, including a pair of comeback victories in Friday's doubleheader to clinch the series.

West Alabama will now look to build on its strong conference position as the Tigers head to Clinton, Mississippi to take on Mississippi College in a non-conference midweek contest on Tuesday, April 7th at 5 PM.
