Tigers Sweep Midweek Doubleheader on Road Against Golden Bears

GARDENDALE, Ala. — The University of West Alabama Softball team swept their midweek doubleheader against Miles, winning Game One, 6-1, before taking Game Two, 9-1, in five innings at Bill Noble Park. 

West Alabama (27-8-1) hit .340 on the day and scored 15 runs while the pitching duo of Eleanor De Block and Megan Roe held Miles (19-21) to two runs on nine hits.

GAME ONE: UWA 6, MC 1

West Alabama's scoring began in the second inning when Carolyn Cagle walked and Jessica Rose singled, bringing up the reigning GSC Player of the Week, Ann Marie Stanbridge who doubled to left field, driving in three runs. Stanbridge's bases clearing double put West Alabama ahead 3-0.

In the third inning, La'Taviona Parke hit a solo home run to center field. Cagle followed with a triple, and Rose drove her in with a single, extending the lead to 5-0.

The Tigers added another run in the fourth when ShaKeria Washington doubled to left field, bringing home Ella Watson. This increased the score to 6-1 after the Golden Bears managed to score a single run in the bottom of the third.

Eleanor De Block pitched a complete game for UWA, allowing only one run across seven innings as West Alabama cruised to a 6-1 victory.

Washington recorded three hits and two doubles, driving in one run. Stanbridge contributed with a double and two RBIs, reaching base with a walk. Parke hit a home run and collected an RBI, adding one run scored. De Block pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run with eight strikeouts over seven innings.

GAME TWO: UWA 9, MC 1

The Tigers struck first in Game Two as Washington drove in Stanbridge. Miles responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run to tie the game up at 1-1. 

In the second inning, Trinity Hatcher doubled, and Cagle followed with a single, driving in Hatcher to put UWA out in front, 2-1.

The third inning was pivotal for West Alabama, as Watson hit a two-run homer. Later in the innings, Rose tripled down the right field line, clearing the bases and scoring three runs. Rose then stole home, capping a six-run inning that extending the Tigers' lead to 8-1.

In the fourth inning, Watson walked and later scored on a triple by Parke, increasing the lead to 9–1. Working with an eight-run lead, Roe breezed through the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to clinch a 9-1 run rule win for UWA.

Watson recorded a home run and two RBIs, contributing significantly to the West Alabama's scoring. Rose tallied three RBIs with a triple, demonstrating her impact at the plate. Roe pitched a complete game, allowing no earned runs and striking out two batters. Parke added a triple and an RBI, finishing with two hits in the game.

West Alabama will return to GSC play this weekend when they open up a three-game home series against West Florida on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
