Tigers Climb in National Rankings as Singles and Doubles Standouts Shine

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's and women's tennis teams both made strong moves in the latest national rankings, continuing an impressive spring season for the Tigers.

On the women's side, West Alabama climbed to No. 4 in the national poll, improving to 14-3 overall and 3-1 in Gulf South Conference play. The Tigers have been fueled by standout performances in both singles and doubles competition.

Leading the way is Shaira Rivera, who moved up to No. 9 in the national singles rankings while compiling a 10-6 record primarily at the No. 1 line. Alexa Milliam also made a jump, coming in at No. 14 in singles with a 6-7 record competing mainly at the No. 2 position.

As a duo, Rivera and Milliam have been dominant, rising to No. 4 in the nation in doubles. The pair holds an impressive 12-2 record at the No. 1 spot, establishing themselves as one of the top tandems in Division II.

Additional national recognition for the women includes Nanoka Kazama, who is ranked No. 49 in singles, and Jenaila Prulla, who checks in at No. 69.

On the men's side, the Tigers moved up to No. 16 nationally, holding an 11-5 overall record and a 3-2 mark in GSC play.

Individually, Matias Iturbe is ranked No. 22 in singles despite not yet competing during the spring season. Gabriel Garay continues to be a key contributor, ranked No. 29 in singles, while Jacob Tapia is listed at No. 57 nationally.

In doubles, the pairing of Jacob Tapia and Federico Iturbe made one of the biggest jumps in the rankings, climbing to No. 14 in the nation. The duo has compiled an 11-4 record together, providing a consistent point for the Tigers at the top of the lineup.

With both programs trending upward in the national polls and multiple players earning individual recognition, West Alabama continues to position itself as a contender in the GSC and on the national stage as the regular season progresses.
