LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team made history Monday night, extending its winning streak to a
school-record 22 consecutive sets with a 3-0 sweep of Stillman College inside Pruitt Hall.
The Tigers (12-1) rolled to set victories of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-11, continuing a dominant stretch that has now seen West Alabama win 22 straight sets without dropping a frame. The streak establishes a new program record for consecutive sets won.
West Alabama finished the night with 39 kills while hitting .373 as a team and limited Stillman to 16 kills and a .062 hitting percentage.
Ola Winiarek led a balanced UWA attack with eight kills on 12 attempts and just two errors, good for a .500 hitting percentage. The junior added eight digs and three service aces to finish with a team-high 11 points.
Katerina Korre added seven kills while hitting .600, while
Cadence Goeden recorded seven kills on 14 swings for a .429 hitting percentage.
Raven Grant chipped in five kills, two service aces and a block assist.
Rachele Zanini directed the offense with 24 assists to go along with three kills, three digs and an ace. Bianca Stütz took over setting duties in the third set and added seven assists as UWA totaled 36 assists on its 39 kills.
The Tigers were also effective from the service line, finishing with 11 aces. Winiarek and
Charlotte Kerscher recorded three apiece, while Grant added two.
West Alabama 3, Stillman 0
West Alabama established control in the opening set behind its most productive offensive frame of the night. The Tigers put down 19 kills and hit .394, with Korre accounting for seven kills. Korre delivered each of UWA's final two points to close out the 25-16 victory.
Stillman remained within striking distance early in the second set before West Alabama broke the frame open. Leading 17-12, the Tigers used Winiarek's serve to fuel a five-point run that included three aces. UWA scored 13 of the final 16 points to take the set 25-13.
Stillman jumped ahead 2-0 to begin the third, but West Alabama quickly erased the deficit. Grant helped create separation from the service line, recording two aces as UWA built a 12-5 advantage.
The Tigers continued to pull away before Kerscher took over at the service line for the final four points. She delivered two aces during the closing run, and Winiarek put down the final kill to secure the 25-11 victory and West Alabama's school-record 22nd consecutive set win. UWA hit .500 with just one attack error in the final frame.
