LIVINGSTON, Ala. – University of West Alabama men's soccer hits the road Wednesday for its first Gulf South Conference road match of the season, traveling to Cleveland, Tennessee, to face Lee University at 7:30 p.m.
The Tigers enter the matchup with a 1-4-1 overall record and 0-1-0 mark in GSC play after splitting their two matches last week. UWA opened conference play with a 2-1 setback against (RV) UAH before responding with an offensive outburst in an 8-1 victory over Tuskegee on Sunday.
Tigers' Offense
UWA enters Wednesday's contest having scored 14 goals through six matches while recording 62 shots and 35 shots on goal. The Tigers have also found the scoresheet from multiple players, with nine different players accounting for at least one goal.
David Nunez leads the Tigers offensively with five goals and two assists for 12 points. The forward recorded four goals last week, including a hat trick against Tuskegee, and enters Wednesday's matchup with 19 shots and 11 shots on goal.
Jesper Bakli has added two goals for four points, while Mitchel Waycott has scored twice despite appearing in just two matches. Oisin Griffin and Mathias Ibanez have each contributed a goal and an assist, while Kevin Garcia leads the team with two assists.
UWA's offense has converted 22.6 percent of its shots into goals and has put 56.5 percent of its attempts on target.
Between the Posts
Dan Erez has started all six matches in goal for the Tigers, playing 509:31 minutes. He has recorded 20 saves with a .606 save percentage and a 2.30 goals-against average.
Erez has helped UWA record one win and one tie on the season, while Eli Lacey has also seen 30:29 of action in goal.
Scouting Lee
Lee enters Wednesday's match at 3-1-2 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play. The Flames have scored six goals through six matches while allowing just four.
Ansel Ledezma, Zane Marsh and Andreas Aspris have each recorded three points, while Willem Cooley, Matias Milla Munoz and Thomas Stift have each added two points.
Marsh leads the Flames with nine shots and seven shots on goal, while Aspris has recorded 10 shots and eight shots on goal. Lee has placed 39 of its 77 shots on target.
Charles Carriglitto has started all six matches in goal for the Flames, posting a 0.67 goals-against average and .826 save percentage. Carriglitto has recorded 19 saves and has helped Lee post three wins and two ties.
Series History
Wednesday marks the 17th meeting between West Alabama and Lee, with the Tigers holding a 7-6-3 advantage in the all-time series.
UWA won last year's meeting 2-1 in Livingston. Lee holds a 4-1-1 record against the Tigers in Cleveland, Tennessee.
West Alabama will continue GSC play Wednesday, September 16, at Lee University. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Cleveland, Tennessee.
