CLEVELAND, Tenn. – University of West Alabama women's soccer fell on the road to No. 10 Lee University, 6-0, Wednesday evening at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
With the loss, the Tigers fall to 1-4-0 overall and 0-2-0 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Flames improve to 4-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in conference action.
Lee opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Ava Smith found the back of the net off an assist from Meagan Tucker.
The Flames added two more goals before halftime, with Abigail Davis scoring in the 39th minute before Addie Chapman extended the lead to 3-0 in the 42nd minute.
West Alabama recorded two shots in the opening half, including an attempt from Bailee Fairley in the fifth minute and a shot from Mikaela Carpino late in the half.
Chapman added her second goal of the match just 2:27 into the second half, scoring off a cross from Isabella Valentine to give Lee a 4-0 advantage.
Emma Nelson pushed the Flames' lead to five in the 60th minute, while Maddie Davis capped the scoring in the 82nd minute with an assist from Siri Stenslie.
Despite the offensive pressure from Lee, UWA goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez made three saves on the night, including stops on attempts from Audrey O'Meara in the opening half and Isabella Valentine in the second half.
UWA finished the match with four shots, placing two on target. Carpino accounted for three of the Tigers' four shots, including two shots on goal, with both attempts saved by Lee goalkeeper Abby Whitcomb.
Lee finished with 16 shots and nine shots on goal while earning five corner kicks. UWA recorded one corner and 11 fouls, matching Lee's total.
Hernandez finished with three saves, while Whitcomb recorded two saves for the Flames.
West Alabama will remain on the road Saturday, September 19, traveling to Valdosta State for another GSC matchup. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
