LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Delta State Wednesday evening at the UWA Soccer Field.

The Tigers move to 1-6-0 overall and 0-4-0 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Statesmen improve to 3-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in league action.

West Alabama struck first just 3:25 into the match when Bailee Fairley found the back of the net off an assist from Tianna Klysh. Fairley put the Tigers ahead early with her first goal of the season.

Delta State answered in the 12th minute, as Emma Earwood scored to level the match at 1-1.

The two sides entered halftime tied, with Delta State holding a 12-9 advantage in shots. UWA goalkeeper Yumari Hernandez recorded three saves in the opening 45 minutes, while Delta State goalkeeper Kim Bircher made four saves.

The Statesmen took the lead in the 58th minute when Millie Webb scored to give Delta State a 2-1 advantage.

The Tigers continued to pressure the Statesmen throughout the second half, finishing with three shots on goal and five corner kicks in the final 45 minutes. Fairley recorded two additional shots in the second half, while Hernandez added four more saves to finish with seven for the match.

West Alabama finished with 12 shots, including five on goal, while Delta State recorded 18 shots with nine on target. The Tigers held a 6-3 advantage in second-half corner kicks and finished with six corners overall.

Fairley led the Tigers offensively with four shots, while Isabella Frullaney added two shots. Hernandez finished the night with seven saves.

The Tigers will now turn their attention to another GSC road matchup, traveling to Spring Hill on Saturday, September 26. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
