LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team continued its historic run Saturday afternoon, sweeping Valdosta State 3-0 inside Pruitt Hall to extend its school-record streak to 34 consecutive sets won.
West Alabama claimed the match by scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-20, improving to 16-1 overall and 4-0 in Gulf South Conference play.
The Tigers finished the afternoon with 39 kills while hitting .229 as a team and held Valdosta State to a .082 hitting percentage. UWA also totaled 55 digs and eight team blocks in another balanced performance.
Katerina Korre led the West Alabama attack with 10 kills on a .308 hitting percentage, while Klára Bobánová added nine kills.
Ola Winiarek turned in an efficient performance with seven kills and a .353 hitting percentage, while
Jazlyn Snow finished with five kills.
Rachele Zanini directed the offense with 30 assists while adding 14 digs, two service aces and two kills on three attacks.
West Alabama and Valdosta State battled throughout the opening set before the Tigers pulled away late. With the score tied at 20, UWA scored five of the final seven points to take the opener, 25-22.
Cadence Goeden provided a kill to give the Tigers set point before a Valdosta State attack error closed it out.
The Tigers again created separation late in the second set. UWA built a 19-12 advantage before Valdosta State cut into the deficit, but West Alabama responded down the stretch. Korre delivered a kill for set point before Winiarek finished the frame with a kill to give the Tigers a 25-20 victory and a 2-0 match lead.
West Alabama completed the sweep with another 25-20 victory in the third, securing its 34th consecutive set victory and keeping its unbeaten start to GSC play intact.
The Tigers will now hit the road for their next conference matchup, traveling to Memphis, Tennessee, to face Christian Brothers University on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. inside Canale Arena.
