LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama volleyball team hits the road for Gulf South Conference action Tuesday night as the Tigers travel to Memphis, Tennessee, to take on Christian Brothers University at Canale Arena. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
West Alabama enters Tuesday's matchup following another successful weekend at Pruitt Hall, sweeping Auburn Montgomery on Friday before defeating Valdosta State in straight sets Saturday.
The two victories extended UWA's school-record streak to 34 consecutive sets won as the Tigers continued their impressive run through September. West Alabama has swept each of its first four GSC opponents, defeating Mississippi Christian, Union, Auburn Montgomery and Valdosta State without dropping a set.
The Tigers have received contributions throughout the lineup during the streak.
Katerina Korre and Klára Bobánová earned Player of the Match honors following Friday night's sweep of Auburn Montgomery before
Ola Winiarek received the honor in Saturday's victory over Valdosta State.
West Alabama's young players have also made an impact throughout the opening month of the season. Freshman
Rachele Zanini has earned multiple GSC Freshman of the Week honors, while the Tigers have continued to combine their newcomers with an experienced group of returners during their historic start.
Tuesday's matchup will take UWA away from Pruitt Hall for the first time since beginning conference play.
Scouting Christian Brothers
Christian Brothers enters Tuesday's contest at 4-12 overall and 0-5 in Gulf South Conference play. The Buccaneers are 3-3 at Canale Arena this season and have dropped their last five matches.
CBU is coming off a 3-1 loss to Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday in Nashville. The Buccaneers dropped the opening two sets, 25-15 and 25-22, before responding with a 25-15 victory in the third. Trevecca closed out the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth set.
Christian Brothers finished the match with 44 kills, 10 service aces, 65 digs and eight total blocks.
Sarah Helms led the Buccaneers with 10 kills on a .364 hitting percentage while adding three service aces and seven total blocks. Ana Clara Sacca Beltran finished with eight kills and only one error on 15 attacks to hit .467, while Alma Solis added six kills on 12 attempts with a .417 hitting percentage.
Carleiny Morillo recorded 18 assists and 12 digs, while Sophia Nowacki finished with a team-high 14 digs. Emma Pomaret contributed seven kills and 11 digs.
The Buccaneers have earned victories over Arkansas-Monticello, Southern New Hampshire, Claflin and Miles this season. CBU's five conference losses have come against UAH, Montevallo, Mississippi Christian, Lee and Trevecca Nazarene.
Tuesday will mark the Buccaneers' first home match since Sept. 19 after playing their previous three contests on the road.
