David Steed returns for his 11th season as assistant coach at the University of West Alabama. His responsibilities include working with hitters, recruiting, and weight training.
The Starkville, Mississippi, native came from Arkansas Tech University where he was responsible for working with the hitters during his five years. He coached five all-region and 13 all-GSC hitters.
Before becoming a coach in the collegiate ranks, he played two years at Meridian Community College where he received All-American, all-region and team MVP honors. He was also part of the first MCC team to make it to the Junior College World Series, where he was named to the World Series All-Tournament Team.
He left MCC after being drafted by the Dodgers in the 15th round. During his nine year professional career, he played in the Dodgers, Angels and Rangers organizations with four of these years being played at the AAA level.
While at UWA, he has coached 13 All-GSC hitters, one All-American, two GSC Freshmen of the Year, a GSC Player of the Year and all-South Central Regional players. In 2008, the Tigers set a new GSC record by having 12 players on the All-GSC team.
David is married to the former Lynda Hill from North Little Rock, Ark. and they have a daughter named Cameron.
