Kevie Thompson took over duties of coaching Tiger defensive backs in May of 2021.
Thompson came to West Alabama from Hinds (Miss.) Community College, where he served as associate head coach, defensive coordinator, and defensive backs coach. His pass defense at Hinds was ranked No. 1 in the nation, with the scoring defense ranked fourth in the MAJC and 18th nationally in points per game allowed at 19.0. Thompson’s total defense at Hinds was 33rd in the nation.
Prior collegiate coaching stops for Thompson include Bethany College, where he coached defensive backs and served as the pass game coordinator. He also served as a volunteer assistant at the University of Florida with defensive coordinator Todd Grantham in the spring of 2018. He also helped run camps at South Carolina and Ole Miss.
High school coaching assignments for Thompson include Starkville (Miss.) High School, Taylorsville (Miss.) High School, Madison Central (Miss.) High School and Raleigh (Miss.) High School.
Thompson played collegiately as a defensive back at Jones (Miss.) Junior College (2007-07) before transferring to Southern Miss (2008-09) to finish his career. He helped lead the Golden Eagles to a pair of New Orleans Bowl appearances.
After earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Southern Miss in 2010, Thompson earned a Master’s in Education at William Carey University in 2014 and a Specialist in Education Leadership from William Carey in 2016.
