Kenric McCants enters his first season as a graduate assistant with the men's basketball program after a stellar career on the court that led him to All-America honors.
Prior to his return to West Alabama, McCants was a member of Gadsden State Community College's staff from 2020-23.
A former point guard on the UWA team during the 2014-15 season, McCants was a part of a GSC regular season championship and an appearance in the NCAA Championships. Making 31 starts of the 32 games played, the Gadsden, Ala. native averaged 9.3 points per game and shot 49.5% from the floor. He also contributed 133 assists and made 38 steals.
McCants transferred to UWA from Arkansas Monticello, where he played in 27 games and scored 6.8 per game, shooting 46% from the field, with 112 assists and 34 thefts.
Between his two seasons at four-year schools, McCants totaled 481 points, converted 172 field goals and had a field goal percentage of 48.2, grabbed 185 boards, dished out 245 assists and recorded 72 steals.
The product of Gadsden City High School started his collegiate career at Gadsden State Community College. During the 2013 season, he was the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) North Division Player of the Year and First Team selection. Along with his recognition on an All-Region team, he was named an honorable mention All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
