Men's Hoops Moves To 3-0 With 77-66 Win At Huntingdon College

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season for the first time since 2005-06 with a 77-66 road win at Huntingdon College on Friday night.

The Tigers withstood a second half charge by the NCAA Division III Hawks after the Red and White finished the opening 20 minutes with a 17 point, 44-27 halftime lead.  HC trimmed the 17 point deficit down to six points, 57-51, midway through the final period.  The Hawks briefly got within four points with 6:48 left in the contest before the Tigers regained their double digit lead at 70-59 with just less than four minutes left in the game. 

With the game tied for the fifth time in the first nine minutes of the contest at 17-17, the Tigers went on a 27-10 scoring onslaught to finish out the first half.  Senior forward Jason Swanson scored 10 of his 16 total points in the opening 20 minutes and pulled down nine boards in the first period.  The Troy, Ala.-native finished the contest with a game-high 15 rebounds.  It marks Swanson's second-straight double-double.  Senior Richard Sirju posted his third-straight double-digit scoring outing with 13 points.  The Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-product connected on 3-of-5 from behind the three-point arc.  Senior Luca Hall turned in 11 points off the bench.  Chris Davis and Alquan Mendenhall chipped in nine points each.

For the third-consecutive game, the Tigers have out-rebounded the opposition.  UWA pulled down a season-high 49 rebounds.

Leon Frazier, Jr. paced HC with a game-high 21 points.

The Tigers will continue its six-game road trip at nationally ranked Delta State on Monday, Nov. 23.  Tip-off at Walter Sillers Coliseum is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
