LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's basketball team will close out the pre-holiday schedule against a pair of Gulf South Conference West Division foes on Saturday, Dec. 19 and Monday, Dec. 21. at Pruitt Hall. The Tigers will face the University of Arkansas at Monticello at 3 p.m. on Saturday before hosting Southern Arkansas on Monday. UWA enters the weekend activity with a 6-4 overall mark after thumping Southeastern Bible College, 98-71, in Birmingham, Ala. on Monday night. The Boll Weevils of UAM improved to 4-3 on the season as they disposed of GSC East member UAH in their last outing. SAU treks to West Georgia on Saturday with a 5-5 mark before Monday's tilt in Livingston. UWA leads the conference in field goal shooting percentage and from beyond the three-point line. Through ten games this season, the Tigers are connecting on 48.7 percent from the field along with a 45.3 shooting mark from behind the three-point arc. Individually, senior guard Richard Sirju and senior forward Jason Swanson rank fifth and eighth respectively in scoring in the GSC. Sirju continues to lead the league in three-point shooting as the Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-native is averaging 3.90 treys per contest and draining 61 percent from three-point range. Swanson remains one of the top rebounders in the GSC with a 9.5 rebounding clip. Saturday's meeting with the Green and White will be the seventh on the hardwood between the two GSC institutions. Both squads have claimed three meetings apiece and will be facing each other for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign. UWA and UAM split a home-and-home series with the home team coming out on top in those affairs. The Tigers will break for the holiday before returning to campus on Dec. 26 to prepare for their in-state battle with NCAA Division I foe Alabama State on Monday, Dec. 28 in Montgomery, Ala.
