No. 8 Valdosta State Too Much For Tigers, 92-55

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of West Alabama men's basketball team surrendered a season-high 92 points in a 92-55 setback to No 8 Valdosta State on Thursday night in Gulf South Conference East Division action.

The Blazers improved to 17-2 overall and 3-0 maintain the top spot in the GSC East at 3-0. UWA falls to 10-9 on the season and 1-2 in league games.

VSU proved why they are one of the top teams in the nation as it led from the opening tip and raced out to a ten-point, 15-5, lead seven minutes deep in the contest. The Tigers kept the deficit in single digits until the Blazers extended the lead out to as many as 18 points with just under a minute left in the period and took that same margin into the halftime session at 44-26. VSU put together back-to-back 54 percent shooting halves while holding UWA to just 31 percent shooting in the affair. VSU out-scored the Red and White 48-29 in the final 20 minutes and limited the Tigers to just nine made baskets in the second half and just 19 total baskets for the game.

Redshirt freshman Ryan Fitch led all UWA scorers with nine points in his fourth-straight start. The Birmingham, Ala.-native has averaged 9.5 points per contest since being inserted into the starting line up against West Florida. Chris Davis and Trevell Coleman each recorded eight points. Davis also dished out four assists and was credited with three steals. UWA's leading scorer, Jason Swanson, was held to a season low four points. The Troy, Ala-forward led the Tigers on the boards with nine. Richard Sirju came off the bench to add seven points.

VSU was paced by current GSC East Division Player of the Week, Tyrone Curnell. Curnell finished with a game-high 20 points in just 24 minutes of action. Ricardo Lewis and Kevin Harris pitched in 11 points.
