LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
The University of West Alabama baseball team opens the 2010 schedule on Tuesday, Feb. 2 as the Tigers travel to Montgomery, Ala. to face Auburn Montgomery. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcasted on FOX Sports 104.9 FM and at www.uwaathletics.com.

The Red and White hold an 8-5 record with the Senators under UWA skipper Gary Rundles. Last season, the Tigers dropped a 7-6 outing at AUM, snapping a four-game win streak against the NAIA member.

UWA was tabbed to finish second in the Gulf South Conference East Division in the GSC Pre-Season Coaches' Poll with three members named to the Preseason All-GSC Team.

UWA received 20 total points in the poll to finish four points behind Valdosta State, which was selected as the East Division favorite. West Florida garnered 18 points in third and was followed by North Alabama in fourth with 14 points. UAH and West Georgia each concluded the East Division with nine and five points respectively. The Tigers grabbed one vote to finish as the GSC Tournament Champion. Southern Arkansas, the favorite of the West Division, received 10 of the 14 votes for tournament champion.

The Tigers return Kevin Deese, Brian Simone and Brian Burgess, who were all elected to the Preseason All-GSC Team. The trio each received All-GSC second team honors last season. Deese became the school's single-season homerun leader with 17 while batting .311. Simone returns to the lineup after batting .327 from last season. Burgess returns to the bullpen after becoming the program's single-season saves leader with 11 and is currently tied for second all-time with 16 saves.

UWA transfers Cory Lopez, Colin McKeen and Moses Munoz were mentioned among the GSC top newcomers to the league. Lopez comes to Livingston after playing at Louisiana State University at Eunice, where he compiled a 2.47 ERA in 2008 at LSUE with a 9-1 record and helped LSUE to the 2008 NJCAA National Championship. McKeen played one season at Parkland College where he hit .383 on the season and helped PC to the 2009 NJCAA Division II National Championship. Munoz was a member of the College World Series Southern Miss baseball team last season. He made 11 appearances for the Golden Eagles with two starts.

West Alabama opens the home portion of the 2010 slate on Friday, Feb. 5 as UWA faces Columbus State in a three-game series. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The game will be available via live stats at www.uwaathletics.com.
