LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama baseball team returns to Tartt Field on Saturday, Feb. 27 as UWA (8-3) welcomes Gulf South Conference West Division member Delta State in for a three game series. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

The Tigers enter the weekend slate after taking three of four at Lynn last weekend. Along with claiming the weekend series against the Fighting Knights, the Red and White picked up a 9-5, midweek decision against William Carey for its fourth win of the week. Brian Simone led the Tigers at the dish en route to earning Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honors. The junior was 10-for-20 with six runs and six RBI. Among his 10 hits were four doubles, a triple, and a homerun as he also drew five walks. The Amherstburg, Ontario native is batting .413 on the season to pace the Red and White. Simone is tied with Kevin Deese for the team lead in hits (19) and doubles (6) and is tied for third with nine RBI along with Douglas Frazier.
Kasey Nafzger has posted a 1.80 ERA in three starts on the mound for the Red and White and compiled a 1-1 record. The Westerville, Ohio product has tossed 15 innings of action and allowed eight runs, three earned, on 13 hits. Nafzger has erased a team best 17 batters while scattering four walks. Cory Lopez (0-1) has tossed 13 innings and tallied 14 strikeouts, second on the team, while Colter Millican (1-0) has fanned 13 batters in the same amount of innings on the bump.
DSU (8-2-1) is led by Josh Gordon and Cade Hoggard, who are both hitting over .400 for the season. Gordon leads the way with a .450 average and a team leading 12 RBI. Hoggard is second on the team with 11 RBI while sporting a .436 clip. The Statesmen have won four straight entering the weekend set, including a doubleheader sweep of UAH on Wednesday.
The weekend series begins an eight game homestand for UWA which includes a midweek, non-conference doubleheader against West Georgia and a three game weekend series with Talladega College.
