UWA Baseball Travels to Montevallo

LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
The University of West Alabama baseball team returns to the diamond on Wednesday, Feb. 10 as UWA (3-1) travels to Montevallo, Ala. to face former Gulf South Conference East Division member Montevallo in a midweek outing. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
 
Wednesday marks the first of three games between the former GSC foes as the two are slated to play a doubleheader on Mar. 31 in Livingston. UWA holds the all-time series record at 61-41. The Tigers are 20-11 against the Purple and Gold clad Falcons since the arrival of Gary Rundles in 2001.

The Tigers look to recover from its first setback of the season, a 7-2 loss to Columbus State on Sunday evening. The stumble snapped a seven game win streak against CSU for the Red and White. UWA opened the season with a win at Auburn Montgomery and had garnered a pair of victories of CSU before falling to the Cougars in the final game of the series.

Dallas Rogers paced the Tiger offense at the plate with a .417 batting average through four games. The McCalla, Ala.-senior logged five hits with two RBI and two runs scored in the first week of action. Sam McCormack leads the Tigers in RBI through four games with four, all coming on his grand slam homerun that lifted the Red and White to a 5-3 win over Columbus State in the opening game of the weekend series. Josh Varner made two appearances on the mound in the first week, tallying a 1-0 record. The Brandon, Miss.-senior tossed a total of five innings while allowing one run on five hits with six strikeouts, which is tied for the team lead with Colter Millican.

UM (1-3) enters the midweek affair after being swept by GSC East Division member West Florida over the weekend. The Falcons opened the season with an 8-3 win over Stillman before dropping three straight to the Argos.

Chris Sosebee and Andy Revell are each batting over .400 for the season. Sosebee logged nine hits in 15 trips to the plate to lead the Falcons with a .600 batting average. Revell posted a .467 batting clip through four games. Sosebee and Revell are among the top five players for UM in RBI. Heath Tapscott is the top hurler for the Purple and Gold with two appearances on the hill and a 1-0 record. Tapscott has recorded four strikeouts and two walks in five innings of work.

West Alabama returns to Tartt Field on the weekend as UWA faces Georgia Southwestern in a scheduled four-game series. The first contest against the Hurricanes is slated for Friday, Feb. 12 at 4:00 p.m.
