Tigers Host Concordia College

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After eight days away from game action, the University of West Alabama baseball team returns to the diamond on Monday, Apr. 12 as UWA (19-15) hosts Concordia College of Selma. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The game will be available via live stats and video at www.uwaathletics.com

The Tigers were scheduled to visit Ouachita Baptist in a midweek doubleheader on Wed. Apr. 7, but the twinbill was cancelled due to anticipated inclement weather.

The contest against at CC is the first of five outings for the Red and White this week. UWA travels to William Carey on Wednesday, Apr. 14 for a single game and returns to Tartt Field to face North Alabama in a crucial Gulf South Conference East Division series over the weekend. The outing against Concordia is the first since Apr. 20, 2005; a 16-1 victory for the Tigers. This marks the sixth meeting between the Hornets and the Red and White since Gary Rundles took over as skipper in Livingston. UWA is 3-2, under Rundles, versus the Hornets. The two teams split the four contests in 2001, Rundles first season.

Kevin Deese leads the Tigers offensive as the Fosters, Ala.-junior leads the team in hits (43), RBI (32), doubles (11), triples (3) and homeruns (7). Fellow junior Brian Simone is batting .345 on the season with 29 runs scored, both tops of the team. The Amherstburg, Ontario-native also leads the team with 27 walks. JB Black is tops among the Tiger pitchers as the Gallion, Ala.-senior has posted a 1.35 ERA and is holding opposing batters to a .200 batting average. A trio of hurlers has recorded 30-plus strikeouts. Cory Lopez (Walker, La.) has tallied a team-best 46 punch outs. Colter Millican (Brighton, Tenn.) and Kasey Nafzger (Westerville, Ohio) has posted 34 and 32 strikeouts respectively.

West Alabama looks to snap a two game losing skid. The Tigers took the opening outing 6-4 but then dropped the last two affairs of the series against West Florida.
