Tigers Travel to William Carey for Midweek Outing

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama baseball team returns to the diamond on Wednesday, Apr. 14 as UWA (20-15) travels to Hattiesburg, Miss. to face William Carey. First pitch is scheduled fro 4:00 p.m.

This marks the second meeting this season between the Tigers and WCU. UWA ran its win streak to five against the Crusaders with a 9-5 victory on Feb. 17 and also improved to 13-3 against the Red and Black under the tutelage of UWA skipper Gary Rundles.

The Red and White enter the midweek outing having snapped a two-game losing streak on Monday afternoon with a 14-0 rout of Concordia College of Selma. Nine Tigers combined for all 12 hits in the contest, including multiple hit efforts from Stephen Dennis, Colin McKeen and Dallas Rogers. McKeen along with Brian Simone, Kevin Deese and Sam McCormack all posted multiple RBI performances.

Five UWA hurlers took the rubber to one hit the Green and Gold in the outing, the fewest hits allowed this season. The Hornets lone hit came in the sixth inning as Jason Howell surrendered an infield to hit A. J. Ward. Tiger starter Colter Millican and Cory Lopez each tossed two innings in the affair with Brian Burgess, Howell and Dom Sapp each throwing an inning. Millican picked up the win, his fifth of the season.

WCU (22-21) enters the contest after snapping a five-game losing streak over the weekend with a series win over Mobile. Six different Crusaders had multi-hit games in the sweep of UM, led by Jarred Rogers and Jacob Casey with three hits apiece. The Crusaders are 0-6 against NCAA Division II opponents this season with four losses to Southern Arkansas and Delta State.

Following Wednesday's action, West Alabama returns to Gulf South Conference East Division action as UWA hosts North Alabama in a crucial weekend series beginning on Saturday, Apr. 17.
