UWA Hosts Stillman in Final Non-Conference Action

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama baseball team returns to the diamond on Wednesday, Apr. 21 as UWA (22-17) closes out its home slate against Stillman College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The games will be available via live stats and live video at www.uwaathletics.com.

The Tigers, who look to avenge a 7-4 loss to SC earlier this season, enter the twinbill with a 19-8 non-conference record. The Red and White are 15-3 against its in-state neighbor under Head Coach Gary Rundles.

In the Feb. 14 meeting between the two schools, UWA out hit the Blue and Gold clad Tigers but had a hard time putting runs on the scoreboard. The Red and White posted 12 total hits in the loss to SC's eight hits. The Tigers stranded 15 runners on the base path and tallied 12 fly ball outs.

Kevin Deese leads the Tigers offensive as the Fosters, Ala.-junior leads the team in hits (50), RBI (39), doubles (13), triples (3) and homeruns (8). Fellow junior Brian Simone is batting .356 on the season with 32 runs scored, both tops of the team. The Amherstburg, Ontario-native also leads the team with 29 walks. A quartet of hurlers has recorded 30-plus strikeouts. Cory Lopez (Walker, La.) has tallied a team-best 52 punch outs. Brighton, Tenn.-native Colter Millican ranks second on the team with 39 followed by 35 from Moses Munoz (San Antonio, Texas) and 32 from Kasey Nafzger (Westerville, Ohio).

West Alabama closes out its regular season this weekend as UWA travels to West Georgia for a decisive three-game series. The Tigers will have to sweep UWG and seek a sweep from North Alabama over the University of Alabama in Huntsville to earn a berth into the Gulf South Conference Baseball Tournament in Millington, Tenn.
