LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama baseball team dropped its third straight Gulf South Conference series as UWA (19-15, 2-7 GSC) fell in a 1-0 defensive struggle to West Florida on Saturday afternoon at Tartt Field.
Kasey Nafzger (3-5) tossed a strong seven innings in the setback. The Westerville, Ohio-native scattered four hits and the Argos only run with three strikeouts and two walks. Dom Sapp pitched the final two innings for the Red and White, allowing just one hit along with three strikeouts.
UWF (26-13, 7-2 GSC) logged its only run in the second inning as Colton Campbell singled to right field to score Jack Materne.
The Argo's starter Kevin Johnson (5-3) recorded his third complete outing of the season. The senior right hander allowed five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in the contest.
Deon Williams tallied two of the Tigers' hits with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Jay Jennings, Brian Simone and Dallas Rogers also carded hits in the outing.
West Alabama returns to action on Wednesday, Apr. 7 as UWA travels to Arkadelphia, Ark. for a midweek, doubleheader against Ouachita Baptist. First pitch of the twinbill at OBU is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
