Tigers Travel to No. 7 UAH for Tough, GSC Contest

LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- The University of West Alabama men's basketball team travels to Huntsville, Ala. for its first road Gulf South Conference contest against the seventh-ranked UAH Chargers on Saturday, Jan. 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be aired on ESPN 104.9 FM and www.uwaathletics.com.

UWA (6-9 overall, 1-1 GSC) enters Saturday's contest against the Chargers coming off a strong home 65-54, victory over rival West Florida. The Tigers never trailed after opening the game on 16-6 run and led by as many as 22 points during various points in the win. 

With 19 points each, Alquan Mendenhall and Richard Dixon paced the Tiger offense. Korielle Beavers rounded out the trio of Red and White players in double digits with 10 points. 

Alquan Mendenhall continues to pace the Tigers in scoring averaging 13.9 points per game. Ryan Fitch has also been a key contributor as well scoring 9.7 points and grabbing 6.7 rebounds per contest. 

UAH (16-2, 3-0 GSC) got off to a slow start in their last game, trailing 6-0 to West Georgia before taking an 18-17 lead at the 7:50 mark of the first half - a lead that the Chargers would not relinquish en route to a 72-58 victory. Josh Magette tallied a double-double for the Chargers, totaling 15 points and 11 assists. Magette was also able to grab five rebounds. UAH also registered another double digit scorer as Jaime Smith also chipped in 12 points. 

The Blue and White – who have won five straight games and eight of their last nine – are led in scoring by a trio of Chargers. Zane Campbell is averaging 12.9 points per game while Magette supplies 12.8 points on average. Jamie Smith concludes the double digit scoring producers with 12.6 points per outing. 

Following the visit to UAH, West Alabama will travel to Carrollton, Ga. on Jan. 27 to take on West Georgia. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30.
